櫛 Kushi - Comb

町娘 髪をとく道具。同様に、結髪してから髪に挿し、髪飾りとしても使った。黄楊(つげ)櫛は、実用性から生まれた素朴な形と、使い込むほどに深みを増す色艶が、江戸町人や歌舞伎役者に好まれた。また彫物や漆、蒔絵を施すなど、発注者の好みで様々な様式のものが作られていた。

A tool for straightening and cleaning hair. Also, Kushi in Edo era was inserted into the hair and used as a personal ornament in the same way as the Kanzashi. Boxwood combs had simple designs stemming from their practical use, and the more they are used the deeper their lustre becomes. Also, they were popular with Kabuki actors and people at Edo.
